Chengdu Airport Transfer
There are 2 airports in Chengdu and from both airports there are more than one options to go to the city of Chengdu. Both public transfer and private transfer are available. Read details of airports of Chengdu including ways of transfer, cost and time.
Location and Map
There are 2 international airports in Chengdu. The old one is Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport which is 20km southwest to downtown Chengdu. The new airport is called Chengdu Tianfu Airport, which is 65km southeast to Chengdu Downtown. Chengdu Tianfu International is still under construction in 2020.

Airport Transfers of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport
Shuttle bus is available from 6am til 11pm but since the open of subway the number of shuttle buses has decreased a lot.
​
Subway is available since 2018 and line 10 goes to the city from Shuangliu International Airport. You can use line 10 to its terminal and the you need to transit to line 3 or line 7 to get around. Subway runs between 6.30am to 11pm every day. It normally takes about 30-40 minutes to get into downtown area of Chengdu.

There is also a train station underneath Shuangliu Airport. From there the train goes to Leshan and Mount Emei directly. Up til early 2020 the fast train can take you to other places including Yibin, Mianyang, Leshan and even Kunming.

Taxis are plenty during flights arrival time. Although at late night there maybe long queues of people waiting to get on a taxi.
Accommodations Nearby
For transit travelers, you can stay near the airport. Try the hotels that provide airport transfers otherwise the taxi drivers may not know the places since it is quite complicated road networks near Shuangliu Airport. Or you can always consider public transport to the city for overnight and come back again the next day.

About terminals
At Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, there are 2 terminals. Up til 2020 if you arrive from outside of China directly or from Hongkong, Taiwan, then you will arrive at terminal 1. All domestic flights will arrive at terminal 2. This is the same when you fly out from Chengdu. And if you went to the wrong terminal, it is still okay because between these 2 terminals it’s 700 meters of walking only. If you are still not certain,you're your taxi driver when you get on one. There are no confusing signs at the airport and people at the airport are usually helpful.

How quick is the clearance of international arrivalsIt is quick in general. It may take up to 20-30 minutes depend on the season. Chinese citizens will use domestic auto-check in channels. Foreigners will use different channels that are by human so it takes longer time. But you won’t be sharing the same channels.

Airport Transfers of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport

Tianfu International Airport is far from the city of Chengdu. It takes around 1 to 1.5h driving to get to the center part of the city from Tianfu Airport. Taxi is available but usually expensive. Tianfu airport is a new airport and nearby hotels are developing but are not as convenient as Shuangliu Airport.

Airport shuttle bus is available 24 hours with one bus every 30 minutes (by night time there are less buses). Shuttle bus Line 1 goes to Chunxi Road and Chengdu East Railway Station. Line 2 goes to Jinsha Bus Station. Line 3 goes to Chengdu Zoo Bus Station. Line 4 goes to Global Center. Line 5 goes to Shuangliu International Airport. Bus tickets costs 15 yuan during daytime and 25 yuan during nighttime.

Metro is available everyday from 6:20am to 11:30pm. Line 18 of metro line goes to Chengdu South Railway Station and one can transit to other metro lines from there.
