After arrive the ridge we shall start walking for the rest of the day until reach the camp by 4300m with gradual and steep sections. The walking is total 14km. We will have total 3 steep sections while the rest are gradual and okay. We shall have views of mountains in Siguniang on the way to Dafeng Base Camp. You’ll need to listen to guide’s advice on this day of whether you should evacuate should you suffer AMS. It’s not wise to risk your life/health. It is possible you may need to give up before reach the camp. But the mountains and views are always there you may come back later when you feel better if you have to give up.
Day03 Dafeng BC - back to Chengdu
Early morning 2-3am start from camp and walk up the summit and see the views of the mountains of Siguniang by the summit. The way up to the summit can be snowy, rocky, windy, icy. During certain seasons you may encounter crowds of “traffic jams” up to the summit which may involve long hours of waiting in the cold (1-3 hours), please expect this and prepare warm clothes and gears against this. Then after photo by the summit we will head back to base camp and re-pack and walk out the same way. You should arrive back to trail head by around 3-4pm and then drive back to Chengdu downtown and arrive between 8pm to 10pm.
Travel Tips:
1, This tour is available between April and October with some years to November also available. The most popular season is during mid June to early September when the mountains are green. Please be aware summer is with green mountains but also with higher probability of fog. Clearer weather with high probability in April-May, Sept to Nov;
2, Please note this trek is very intense. It gains altitude from Chengdu at 500m to the highest at 5000m in a matter of 40 hours time. Elevation of hiking is between 3100m and 5000m, the risk of AMS is very high. Please do consult with your doctor and evaluate your physical conditions and know the difficulty of this trek before sign up. You may take medicine as a good precaution to avoid getting AMS.
